Knee Deep in the Passenger Seat
Knee Deep in Session Zero
In which Sharilyn and Cady realize that they yapped too much in their first episode and that they’d have to split the episode or alienate their ADHD ass fanbase before they even got started.
Translation:
Our first episode was 90 minutes long, so we yanked some stuff and made Episode 0, which, if you’re not a D&D kid, is a term that refers to the session before you start your campaign where you get together with your party and make characters, get the lore, etc.
So, please enjoy our lore 💕

Cady Moore:
I acknowledge that the land on which I do this work is the traditional territory of the Nisenan people, as well as the ancestral home of the Maidu, Miwok, and Patwin people.
I honor and recognize their enduring connection to this land and their ongoing contributions to the cultural heritage of this region.
As I occupy this space, I commit to amplifying Indigenous voices, working toward healing the historical and ongoing injustices faced by Native peoples, and supporting their right to self-determination.
I express my gratitude to the Indigenous stewards of this land, past, present and future, and offer my respect to all Indigenous communities.

Cady here. As a surprise to absolutely no one, Sharilyn and I yapped for a long ass time and decided that for the sake of everybody's wellbeing, we are going to split the episode into two episodes.
So this first episode is a little bit more of an insight into how the podcast came about – Sharilyn and I's origin story – and then our next episode will be a girthier episode with a lot more information about who we are and what we're bringing to the table.
But enjoy this little teaser for everything that Knee Deep in the Passenger Seat is going to bring to your ear holes.
[Knee Deep Intro Music:Groovy synth-pop with techno vocals plays, with a robotic voice saying “Knee deep in the passenger seat.” The song ends with a playful chime].
Sharilyn: (02:22)
Uhhh, okay, honestly, I hate a countdown. [Chortles from Sharilyn and Cady.] That actually makes me really anxious.
[Cady makes trumpet sounds.]
Cady: (02:26)
I'm not gonna sing, I got too nervous. [Nervous laughter] I got stage fright.
[Audio from the viral Vine plays. A young girl sings off-key, “Country boy, I love you, wahhhh.”]
Sharilyn: (02:42)
You got a little scared?
Cady: (02:44)
[In a silly youthful voice] I got a little scared…cease and desist [giggles].
Sharilyn: (02:50)
Yeah, honestly [sigh] we need to cease and desist, but we persist. But still I rise. [Giggles.]
[Audio of another voice in a low register, and with a slight Southern accent, says, “And still…I rise.”]
Cady: (03:00)
Why desist when we can persist, you know?
Sharilyn: (03:03)
Aww, what if we Hercised [hersist]?
Cady: (03:05)
[Gasp] Oh, that's hot, we should write that down. I’m writing it down.
Sharilyn: (03:07)
Hi everybody! It's–um, welcome to our podcast. This is our, kind of flagship episode. I hope I'm using that right. [Cady cackles.] This is our intro episode that we've been talking about recording for, I feel like years at this point…
Cady: (03:23)
Like really truly years. My name is Cady.
Sharilyn: (03:26)
I’m Sharilyn.
Cady: (03:28)
And this is Knee Deep in the Passenger Seat!
Sharilyn: (03:32)
Yay! [Applause]
Cady: (03:34)
[In an exciting mock scream] Ahh!
Sharilyn: (03:35)
Until we get a cease and desist.
Cady: (03:36)
And then we will just be Knee Deep, and we'll have to apologize to the one other knee deep podcast out there. But you know, whatever–
Sharilyn: (03:43)
Absolutely.
Cady: (03:43)
That's a future us problem. [Giggles from both people.]
Sharilyn: (03:41)
Yeah, we've captured the flag and we're running with it. [Cady giggles.] They haven't used–they haven’t uploaded in awhile. [Speaking through laughter] It’s ours now.
Cady: (03:49)
[In a playfully aggressive voice] It's ours now! Um, so– [Giggles]
Sharilyn: (03:54)
I–Go ‘head.
Cady: (03:55)
[Speaking through laughter] I feel like there's gonna be a lot of ‘uh– mm– uh– go-aheads’ and there's no like, cutting it from anything.
Sharilyn: (04:03)
I know.
Cady: (04:05)
So everybody get ready for some interruptions. We are here to be our sweet, amazing neurodivergent selves.
Sharilyn: (04:15)
Absolutely.
Cady: (04:16)
My name is Cady. I am a queer, ADHD, and autistic according to my self-assessment, so, neurodivergent, kinky, polyamorous sex educator. I'm based in Sacramento, California. And then this is my wife-in-law.
Sharilyn: (04:27)
Absolutely, and we are happily going on almost five years together. Should I say? Five years–five years of wife-in-laws?
I'm Sharilyn. I am also queer. I am also pretty neuro-spicy, which I'm getting another assessment on Monday about.
I think I forgot to tell you, going on Monday for another assessment and–
Cady: (04:30)
Ooh! That's exciting.
Sharilyn: (04:48)
Yeah, absolutely. I've been fighting my hardest battles this semester with focus so, we're going to go get that checked out.
I would say I am softly kinky, not super knee deep in the kink seat, but we're exploring. [Giggles].
I'm a mother. I am also poly. Um, I have been for about five years. I am a social work student and Canadian.
[A man’s voice speaks, “And the truth is, they’re Canadian. That’s why they’re so silly.”]
Cady: (05:20)
Yeah!
Sharilyn: (05:22)
…living in the South, Canada! Yeah, and Cady and I are happily, almost celebrating our five years coming up, which is so fun.
Cady: (05:30)
It’s so cute.
Sharilyn: (05:31)
And I feel like since actually the beginning, and I don't know if you have any, like, core memories of this,
But I feel like as you and I became closer in our relationship, and I have to clarify, we share a partner and that's our relationship.
That's–that’s how we–that’s how we became wife in-laws, just to clarify for people who are confused. I feel like...
Cady: (05:250)
Yeah, we will–we will be spilling the tea. We'll be spilling the tea on that later. So like it'll make more sense, but…
Sharilyn: (05:55)
Absolutely, absolutely. But for context, as Cady and I began to form our friendship, there was very key moments when I feel like we recognized we were the same person.
[Audio from a silly song plays, with a girl’s voice singing, “I can’t believe that it’s finally me and you, and you and me, just us, and your friend Steve. Do-do-do do-do-do-do Steve! Do-do-do do-do-do-do!]
Sharilyn: (06:20)
And more increasingly, we would say something and be like, ugh, we need our own podcast.
Cady: (06:25)
We need a podcast. [With passion] We need a podcast.
Sharilyn: (06:28)
We need our own podcast. Like, yes, of course, the market is already flooded. But um, why not us?
Cady: (06:35)
Yeah, hell yeah.
Sharilyn: (06:35)
Why not?
Cady: (06:36) Yes, 100%. Our–And this is something that like I've really struggled with over my whole fucking life. [Giggles from Sharilyn.]
The idea of feeling like, well, what do I have that is special? What do I have that's different? Why does my voice matter?
And the–the more–the more work in therapy I do, and honestly, the longer that I'm in the sex education field,
The more I recognize that everybody's experience and expertise matters as long as it's coming from a place of kindness and love, which, oh boy, we got that shit in spades!
Sharilyn: (07:11)
Yeah.
Cady: (07:12)
So yeah, I'm just, I'm really excited for us. And honestly, it was the–the real, like, tipping point came. We did an Instagram live that was supposed to be like 30 minutes and it ended up being like 90 minutes.
And we got so many people in our DMs saying, y'all need to start a podcast. So–
Sharilyn: (07:26)
Yup. Yeah.
Cady: (07:28)
What better for two women who have zero time for literally anything in their life to do but take on another project? [Giggles.]
Sharilyn: (07:35)
Absolutely, absolutely. And I also feel like we recognize that we have an inherent privilege as people who have access to education, people who have,
I feel like for you and I have been able to navigate a very successful metamor dynamic within this community,
[Mumbles of affirmation from Cady]
And also kind of from our standing points, been able to see a lot of different dynamics within our community and also within our community, which is the queer community.
Cady: (07:50)
Yeah, yeah. And so for what it's worth–that is…the primary theme of this podcast is sex ed, queer experiences and queer topics, polyamory and non-monogamy,
And then literally anything else we want to talk about because we are both ADHD and we go through hyperfixations that are often shared [giggles] and very fun,
And aligned with a lot of the people who fall into those other communities that we were just talking about, you know,
And we both have had many moments over time of feeling really alone in each of our different identities.
And so finding less aloneness in each other and yapping with strangers that we meet and we figured we could just bring it [clicking tongue] right here together. So we're–
Sharilyn: (08:50)
Absolutely.
Cady: (08:51)
–pretty excited. [Laughter.]
Sharilyn: (08:56)
Yeah, I would say we have a superpower of not shutting the fuck up and why not monetize that? [Cady laughing hysterically.]
And also like, we [giggling], why not? You know, this one's for the wage gap and for all the men who told us we're too much.
Cady: (09:07)
Yeah! Ohhhh!
Sharilyn: (09:08)
Well, you know what? We're taking it on the road, baby.
[Cady sighing with satisfaction.]
Sharilyn: (09:12)
Yeah, I feel like one thing that is really important to us and part of why we wanted to start a platform is...
We have access to a lot of people within our communities, Cady through her sex education, me through also yapping and–
Cady: (09:24):
And the internet.
Sharilyn: (09:26)
–flagrant sexuality, and the internet, that we have so many cool people that we want to give a platform to, that we are curious about. We're naturally very curious about people.
I feel like we want to kind of dive in and get to know people and connect in like the deeper spaces.
And so to create a platform not only for our communities but for other communities…
Cady: (09:47)
Mm-hmm.
Sharilyn: (09:48)
Focusing on counterculture niches, queer experiences, sexual wellness, places that don't necessarily have the biggest spaces for platforms, for marginalized communities.
We are–we are just really blessed to have so much– We were saying this the other day, we have so many cool fucking people who are so unique and have such cool–
Cady: (10:02)
Yeah.
Sharilyn: (10:12)
–experiences and backgrounds and insight into different things in the world that a lot of mainstream platforms, I feel like, don't explore.
And like, what better way for us than to put in the work again, even though we have no time to like create a space or like a launching pad to elevate those people.
Cady: (10:22)
